Mentorship programs for 巴特尔克里克 teachers part of partnership with 区,W.K. 凯洛格基金会

Devan Washington distinctly remembers his first day as 教师助理. 那是新学年的开始 COVID-19 pandemic and 13 small kindergarten faces appeared in Zoom 电脑上的方块.

Retention rates among BCPS teachers are increasing, Cox 说, because she and other mentors provide individualized support and talk frankly with mentees about their classrooms and their lives 作为老师.

For Washington, participating as a first-year teacher in the ECT program meant thriving in the classroom rather than 幸存的. Retired teacher Catherine Stevens was Washington's mentor during his first year and now mentors other 巴特尔克里克 teachers. Washington 说 Stevens helped him create bulletin boards, staple packets, assist with lesson planning — "Anything I needed, 真的”——并监督他如何管理一个教室.

“凯茜注意到我给所有学生的朋友都打了电话,” as in, 'OK, friends, let's come back together,'" he 说. "It created a weird little dynamic in that we weren't teacher-students, we were friends, and that was making my classroom 管理有点困难.

Baxendale 说 the PLC meetings are helpful to discuss common issues with colleagues and find solutions to bring to the 其他的教职员工.
